Day Out: Touring central London, part 1

Today was the first day of my winter holiday and so I caught the train into Charing Cross with Stephen's parents and we began a mammoth day of London tour making.

We were actually meant to be making our way to the British Museum but I had suggested that we couldn't possibly go through Charing Cross without paying a visit to Trafalgar Square.

We saw the Norwegian Christmas Tree which just has to look better at night because it just looked sad and cold by day!  That is the National Gallery in the background.

I think I am getting old!  Fifteen years ago, the first thing I did when I saw one of the lions was jump onto its back and insist that my friend take a photo of me!  These days I behave myself and act like a normal human being instead!

It's always nice to see good old South Africa House which faces onto Trafalgar Square.  That is a freaky gaudy golden winged springbok you can see at the front there.

With a final glance over at Nelson's Column and a bit of black taxi cab spotting, we were on our way.  We decided to head down Whitehall and spotted the Horse Guards.

Gosh these horses are magnificent but I can't help but wonder about the point of it all and whether it is necessary for the horses to be continually put in an obviously stressful situation.

Usually when I arrive at the Horse Guards Building I arrive during the changing of the guard and I have never actually walked through it before.  Today was different though and we walked through the Horse Guards Building into St James Park.  That whole story will have to wait for tomorrow though as I am exhausted!
