Evening out: Gourmet Burger Kitchen

It was our ten year dating anniversary yesterday and to celebrate, Stephen and I went to Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Greenwich.  My brother Chris and my cousin Michael joined us.

We arrived at about 8pm and we easily found a table for four in the upstairs area.  The restaurant is small but the dining areas were roomy and comfortable.  The burgers on the menu are yummy and really inexpensive.  They range from £6 to £8 which is really good for London.  You'll need to pay for side orders, such as fries, separately.  The drinks are very expensive with alcoholic beverages costing over £3 each.  Chris wasn't complaining though.  They served his favourite South African dry cider, Savannah.  (It's dry but you can drink it).

There was a very long wait for the food - 26 minutes to be exact.  The wait is exacerbated by the sight of massive burgers being delivered to your neighbours but it was absolutely, 100% worth the wait.

I had a camembert and cranberry chicken burger, Stephen has a Mexican burger, Chris had a falafel burger and Michael had a buffalo burger.   None of us was disappointed.  My burger was moist and juicy with a very generous slab of camembert; Stephen's burger was tasty and definitely not too spicy; Chris's burger was tasty and allayed all his concerns about being served on a bun and not in pita and finally, Michael's burger was tender and juicy which is quite a feat when serving venison or buffalo.

The service was excellent and quick and it is perhaps the first place I have dined in in London for years that haven't added a compulsory 10% gratuity to the bill.  Having said that, we happily left the servers a tip because they definitely deserved it.

When we paid, we were presented with two "You Buy One, We Buy One" vouchers. Unlike the voucher I upload in yesterday's post, this one is valid for use on Fridays up to 30 September. We'll definitely try go there again in the nex month!!!

After the meal, we walked past the Greenwich Maritime Museum to the car.  Greenwich is one of my favourite areas, as you may know, and I love the night time view of Canary Wharf.  We had a lot of fun arguing whether the laser coming from the Greenwich Observatory was indeed the Greenwich Meridian marker.  From where we were standing, it seemed to point slightly North North East and not North but we were wrong and apparently it is indeed marking the 0° Latitude.
